I run it to take advantage or LB fast flow to my speed option. many times they overrun the shovel man. I also like giving the DE a different look. My Qb is told to run flat and try to break the conain of teh DE (usually never happens). If the DE keeps outside leverage settle and shovel. If the DE squeezes get downhill and pitch off the next defender. parkdalefootball@yahoo.com www.parkdalefootball.bravehost.com

Top Cat us young guys need to do all we can to catch up with you. All this snow won't stop the Panthers from getting better. August 3rd should be a good time this year! www.parkdalefootball.bravehost.comparkdalefootball@yahoo.com

Crazy option - what are you doing with the frontside OL? Also, what is your preferred side to attack - the 1 receiver or 2 receiver side?
The frontside WR bases #1 or cracks force player? Or, push/cracks the force?

Guys, a "Crazy" Option is a type of counter option, Petrino and Demayo both site this in their books. The Shovel option is called a Shovel Option.

Jerry Campbell and Lyle Lansdell's book Installing the Gun Offense calls the play 18/19 Crazy where they shovel to the back if the DE keeps contain on the QB (page 118). It is blocked like speed option. I call it shovel with my team because I like descriptive words and "crazy" doesn't tell them anything. Call it what you call it. It makes no difference as long as your team is on the same page. www.parkdalefootball.bravehost.comparkdalefootball@yahoo.com

Coach, The link below details something we run which is very close to what Wacker and Morton called the "Crazy Option." I have it diagrammed and also have a couple of video clips... there is some discussion on how our version differs from the original. We run it from under center, but you could run it from the gun, I guess. veersite.blogspot.com/2004/07/trap-option-spinner.htmlCoach Smith

ok
similar to what i was thinking
except there is a kickout and there is no one coming underneat for the shovel
there is someone going over the top for the pitch
crazy to me would be not even touching the psde, if you are going to pull a guard, then he is wrapping for the linebacker
there is an underneath guy for the shovel and then there is an over the top guy for the pitch
the qb reads it in to out while attacking the de
