Coach: Don't know if you have any option experience at all, but adding option from the gun is relatively easy.
Also don't know if you have QB with one other back or two in the gun, but option from both sets is possible, of course.
QB must be taught pitch skills and QB and pitchback must be taught pitch relationship. Could expand this if you wish. Post again, or email me.
The end man on the LOS (EMOL) becomes the QB's read, but you probably know this already. The blocking scheme must account for all interior defenders inside the pitch key. The scheme must also account for the secondary - the CB is usually blocked by the WR to that side and the safety who will be the run force defender is usually blocked either by a lead back or a slot receiver.
The QB gets a real clean look at the EMLOS and is always in position to squat and make a good pitch - whether the EMLOS hesitates, attacks right now or tries to 'feather' the QB.
You'll get differing views on whether the QB should attack the inside or the outside hip of the end man (his pitch key), but I believe he should attack inside hip to force as quick a decision from that pitch key as posssible. The quicker the QB can read and make his decision, the quicker the ball can get to the perimeter. The worst enemy of option football is more defenders to the playside than be blocked or optioned.

Coach Robinson, i`m interested in learning a few option plays out of 2 back pro-shotgun. mainly weak side option out of that form. areas that i need help in are. qb/rb footwork, qb reads,o line assignments. i have a few diagrams of Utah`s plays but i need more info. i have little experience in option.
thanks, drew (DLHF1 @aol.com)
