This may have already been discussed on this board but I couldn't find it. Whenever the above question comes up on other boards it seems like the overwhelming majority says you should stay with either spilt backs or I backs or what ever it is you do. We have run option from both I and split backs for 4 years (this is when we swiched to the option). We have never had a problem with mesh points or timing. We rep both . We don't run OSV out of the I. But we do run ISV, LOAD, Lead and / or trap options from both. We do run Isos from the I which I like. We feel each set has a certain advantage over the different defenses we see Thats pretty much it. I guess I feel like the Lone Ranger on this one. Does anyone else run option from different sets? What is your practice schedule like? What sets do you use?

I don't recommend running option from I and split backs b/c you have two different mesh points. The best way to run the option is to keep the mesh point constant. Either have your fullback behind the QB or behind the guard. That's the best way to run the option.

I dont recommend it either... but you be creative and get away with some things...
Let's say you are a splitback veer team who would like to get in the "I" some and try some things like counter trey and perhaps some sprint-out passing... Perhaps not the best plays to run out of splitbacks. You don't have to go to a true "I", you can leave your FB offset (in his regular splitback alignment) and move the HB back to a TB position. Your offset might limit your ability to run option away from the FB, but you can use that to set up other plays like counter trey, counter option, and counter-boot/waggle play action. You still have your playaction off the Iso (which you may not even run). You can run speed option from the offset I, too.
Just some thoughts...

okay anyone ever coached out of the flex bone and used the tb as the pitch man? I have a scheme that will allow me to run option but the problem is I have two huge backs and 1 scat back. want to invert the bone and run option. QB is a quick little stud

that's just a speed option, you can run it with no motion on a quick count or bring the motion across for a nice angle block or just run it...

We run zone read, shovel, and speed option from the gun but only run speed option from under center. It takes so much practice time to get the other stuff right I don't think adding under center veer would be in our best interest.
