Coaches,
We love getting our kids fired up...let's share some of our best stories.
Mine is a 'Rocky Blier' variation...it's good if you're the underdog.
Start with a brief intro on who Rocky was (some kids have no idea) and what kind of player he was. Briefly explain his injuries in Vietnam.
His doctor thought he would never walk again. At 4 o'clock one morning, his doctor was making his rounds and found Rocky standing at the side of his bed, sweating profusely and in obvious pain. The doctor said, "Rocky, I said you'd never walk again." Rocky said, "Not today. Today I'm walking."
Months later, at 4 in the morning, his doctor caught him running in the hallways of the hospital. The doctor said, "Rocky, I said you'd never run again." Rocky said, "Not today. Today I'm running."
Months later at 6 in the morning, on a hot summer day, Rocky stepped on the field for the first day of camp. His coaches said, "Rocky, your doctor said that you'd never play again." Rocky said, "Not today. Today I'm playing football." He went on to win 4 Super Bowls with the Steelers.
All week the press has been saying we can't win tonight. That team is supposed to be better than us, faster, stronger. Well, maybe they were better yesterday; maybe they'll be better tomorrow; but NOT TODAY.
Sounds better than it reads...sorry, fellas.
