We're going to be installing 4 to 6 new pass routes in addition to our play action and 3 step game. It's some stuff that Mummy ran at KY before he was ran outta town. I think his stuff came from Norm Chow... which makes sense 'cuz Chow was at BYU for quite some time. Anyway, the routes we are looking at are Y Stick, Y Cross, Mesh, X Post (our name for it)", and a couple more. Anybody on here have any experience with this to any degree?
I'm thinking we'll have our HBs come to the line every time in a wider set (on the inside leg of the OT's instead of on the inside leg of the guards). If we're going from the gun, we'll go on first sound, from under center with the wide HB's we'll go on set. as a key buster, the middle flood routes don't need the HBs in a route, so they can be in tight for those routes. The backs will tighten up on "set" regardless of the call, so the snap count will determine some of out alignments without having to call it along with the play. the players should get a feel for it after they've repped it a while.
Just brainstorming...

Coach Smith,
sounds great....we did the same thing few years ago...big thing is to get the quarterback to understand that the first read isn't going to be there most of the time( long ball) but that his 2nd and especially his third read in the triangle ( most of the time the running back) will be wide open, and get him the ball IN A POSITION WHERE HE CAN DO SOMETHING WITH IT...he must make a good pass....it was also our experience to run it out of split backs with 3 wides(TE flexed) because it clarified our 7 man check protection and became really easy to block...and it enhanced our option game evern more....its good stuff Steve....
