I have been toying with this idea for a couple of weeks. I want to merge the flex-bone and the shotgun and make one offense. The defense would have fits do to the fact that they will have to defend both in a defeffirent way. What do you guys thing?

slickoc2004: we started the year with a hybrid flexbone / shotgun and we wound up giving ourselves fits; I think both systems are sound, but it is tough to be good at both; we wound up losing our first three games before scaling back our package and running everything under center; we won the next seven in a row and won our section
RunTheBall: I like it, particularly if you vary your receiver spacings (bunch, trey, etc.) and run QB counter as well. I think one of the toughest things for a high school defense to handle is a 3 x 1 set with a stud receiver out there all by himself.

I like the shotgun option ,I would love to lineup in gun because all the possiblities.last year we avg. 28 pts per game without it.I loook at the practice time and all the options we run now which have been successful. What do you get rid of.Our best plays have been midline and outside veer, which we cant run out of gun.I think running the gun option is an offense in itself.Edavis you said exactly what i believe would happen if we ran both.

The way that I disigned the offense was to run the flex to run the option and the gun to pass out off, and run some of the traditional running play for the gun. I didn't want to run the shotgun triple because that will cause alot of confusion with the kids.

if you are not running jets, couldn't you run both from about 2 to 3 yard gun with the fb behind him?
might give some interesting angles for the qb to get downhill now, still utilize the quickhitter, and the beauty of the option
