I've always been intrigued by the Double Slot look and went to a great talk this weekend on midline out of it. My question is, what are some of the base plays out of this formation? Midline, Veer, Speed, what else?

Rocket sweep (toos to Flex back in motion past the Fb) and Jet sweep are great plays to get to the perimeter quickly

Coaches,
I've already had two requests for copies of notes from the clinic talk I mentioned above. The talk was given by Coach Brandon Mattich of Wentzville Holt High in Missouri. (Option101, I was wrong on that info I sent you earlier.) The coach had a packet that went into great detail--10 pages on just midline! The packet explains so well that I didn't really add much to what was already in there. Point being, if you want a copy of it, it would be easier for me to get an address, make the copy, and send you the packet that way. Post here or send me a message if interested.

I have received a few more requests. I'm having my aide here at school make copies and should have them sent out by Saturday if I get to the post office in time, or Monday if not. A strategy question now--with the option plays plus Rocket Sweep and Jet sweep mentioned above, what counters could be put into Double Slot with these? Like I mentioned earlier, I am fascinated by watching the offense work, but my knowledge of it is very limited.

My favorite at this point is trap option 2.would be scissor lead.hb motion and lead ,fake triple outside ho following lead block.3.se reverse off triple.4.scissor lead off midline action with qb as ball carrier.5.qb or fb trap fake triple one way go back with trap..6.Delaware Sally off triple action.

For Ctr plays, the Sally is great. You can also run a ctr Iso faking the veer and handing to one Slotback, but you really have to have slots who want to block to get this done. In theory, your ctr should be off of your base/best option play.On the sally, you can do it either w/ veer action or Load/lead action. Either one works great. You really don't need a ctr off of midline from dbl slot, b/c you can run CTR/twirl motion to freeze the pursuing LB's and keep them from jumping the play anyway.

I know how some of the sweeps and counters work from this formation, but, for those of you who know how to post this stuff, could I see diagrams of the "counter Sally" and "scissor lead" plays described above? Thank you.

You need to run midline and veer. In addition make sure that you have a play off-tackle and a sweep. Also, have a play in the A-gap away from motion and a play in the B-gap away from motion. I also recommend waggle away from motion.

bobdoc and anyone else, I just read through the notes on conter sally and scissor lead. My question involves the playside rules for the Sally. With the step and hinge technique, are you then trying to invite the defender upfield and the slotback cuts underneath at the first opportunity? That's the way it looks to me. Also, let's say I want my lineman firing off instead of stepping and hinging. Could I have the slotback get a little depth to improve vision of the hole and apply inside zone rules to that playside blocking? Thanks in advance for any responses.
