PLEASE JOIN OUR FORUM - REGISTRATION IS EASY From our Base 52 defense we have created a very effective shade 50 with few changes. Two requirements are an above average MLB and a physically strong Nose. Drawings: putfile.com/pic.php?pic=3/5913223126.jpg&s=x3The secondary shown in both drawings in cover 2 but the Shade defense gives us great flexibility to play man and combo coverages. Another great aspect of the Base 52 AND the Shade is that both give us the ability to play a variety of odd stacked fronts without compromising our ability to play run. In the Shade we have titled our Nose to the strongside and pulled the Weak DT into B gap. Both DTs have B gap responsibility but we can stunt out of that look if we feel the offense is taking advantage of our rules. The tilted Nose has a double A gap responsibility. That sounds a lot harder than it turns out to be since we trach the Nose reads to give him an advantage (one example would be that if the Center blocks back on him he can give up the near A gap and fight across the the weak A gap). The MLB is basically free (since the tilt has both A gaps. The othe LB (now shifted to the strongside) has the C gap. Both Ends are responsible for contain. The responsibilities of the four defensive backs depend upon your coverage. Another note is that the alignment of the LB over the TE takes away most "hot" passes to the TE - something that is harder in the straight 52. We will be doing more from the odd stack defenses so we will probably start calling the base a 3-4 instead of a 5-2. Leave your email on your next post if you want more/expanded discussion of this defense.
