What is your pass protection on midline? What are your favorite pattern sets from the midline fake?

Out of an I set we run X post Y hot or seam and Z fly. We see mostly 4-4 types of defense and when the Ps OLB steps up and reads run, our TE slips past him and is usually open after the fake. When the FS jumps him in cover 3 the back side post is deadly. As for pass pro, we run a gap block playside and hinge backside. HOWEVER,I would really be interested in how others do it. We have been hurt with a backside OLB blitz. We send the HB (I) on his pitch route to make the playaction look legit. Our backside Tackle hinges on the DE. If that OSL comes we can be in trouble if we don't throw it right away. Any other ideas?

First off, let me say this board looks great. I hope enough people begin posting to keep it open! One thing we do with the TE/T on midline is fold block the defensive end with the tackle blocking out and the TE wrapping around to LB. You can mimic this block on playaction by having the TE/T do the same block only the TE runs down the field--seam pattern. We run midline as a double-dive, the QB fakes to both and then looks for TE. We upset a nationally ranked team in the second round last season. We ran this play (they had never seen it before) on the first drive for a 25-yard gain and it really set the tone for the game. I don't know if this is where he originally got the idea, but the HC I work under said Rice does a similar play with their slot back folding under.

We run a dump/pop to the halfback.

We run a post/wheel to the backside...it is open all the time.

When running play action off midline or veer, we seem to have a lot of problems with the QB being too close to the LOS. Has anyone else had this problem and how do you fix it? Do you half roll? Give just a very quick ride and drop him?

I have found success when we flash fake to the FB, 2 steps down the LOS and then pop the QB back. Haven't had any problems with this technique.
