1 What is the length and direction of the first step you have your linemen take on zone blocks? Why?
2. Do your linemen block individually or as part of combo blocks when zone blocking? Please explain.
Thanks!

A six-inch step is our first step with the lineman "grabbing the guns" on that step. It should feel to the kids like all they are doing is picking up the foot and setting it back down. The second step is where our lineman make contact and step into the man. We use a "near ear" rule with zone blocking where kids combo the nearest down defender to the LB in their zone.
